The purpose of this examination is to select eligible candidates in B.E./B.Tech & B.Arch courses in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and engineering colleges of the participating states.
The merit listed candidates who will qualify JEE Mains 2020 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) will be invited to take JEE Advance 2022 conducted by seven zonal IITs. But before heading towards these two you must know what is the difference between JEE Mains & JEE Advance 2020.
Major & Minor differences between JEE Mains & JEE Advanced are:-
Difference 1.
JEE Mains is the examination which filters candidates as per their category based merit list to pursue courses as B.Tech, B.E in National Institute of Technology(NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology(IITs) and Centrally funded Technical Institutes(CFTIs), whereas JEE Advance is a little difference paper, as students qualifying JEE Advance will become eligible for Admission in B.Tech, B.E and B.Arch courses conducted by IITs. IIT Mains is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced.
Difference 2.
JEE Mains will consist of two papers, choice of filling for the either paper will be given to a candidate as per its priority or interest in B.Arch or B.Planning courses.
Paper 1 will be a normal non specific paper for B.E & B.tech courses, whereas Paper 2 will be for the specific B.Arch Courses. Paper 1 will be conducted in two varying modes both Online and Offline where paper 2 will be strictly pen-paper based.
Paper 1 | Paper 2 |
Admission in B.E and B.Tech | Admission in B.Arch and B.Planning |
Online & Offline | Only Offline |
A candidate must specify to appear in Paper 2 or not while applying for JEE Mains examination.
Difference 3.
JEE Mains is both Offline and Online, but JEE Advanced is wholly Offline pen paper-based examination.
Difference 4. A student will have a choice to appear in either paper(Paper 2) in case of JEE Mains as per his/her choice but to qualify JEE Advance, a candidate is compelled to strictly appear in both papers, Paper 1 as well as Paper 2 to get admissions in IITs.
Point to be noted:- If a student wish to persue Architectural Courses offered by IITs, then there is a whole difference scenario, to achieve this goal, following things are needed to perform by that candidate.
A student must clear paper 1 and paper 2 in JEE Advanced.
Then after passing the two papers will appear in Architecture Aptitude Test(AAT) which seven zonal IIT conducts every year.
Only IIT Kharakpur and IIT Roorkee offers B.Arch in their campus.
Well before taking you towards other very specific and important difference between JEE Mains & JEE advance, the word AAT must have dragged your attention right? AAT which means Architecture Aptitude Test, why don’t we then cover this up as well.
AAT 2020(Architect Aptitude Test for B.Arch programme)
- Candidates securing all India category rank in JEE Advance and wants to get admissions in B. Arch. (Architecture) courses will have to PASS in the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT).
- AAT too as IIT Advanced is conducted by IITs and the aptitude test is available in only English language.
- IITs won’t offer a new Call letter/Admit card for AAT examination, the student must bring IIT Advanced Admit card 2022 on all AAT centres.
- No separate ranking system has been designated for AAT, a student will get admitted to B.Arch courses through AAT only on the basis of All India Rank obtained by them in the JEE Advanced exam.
Now moving on to the basic differences here is the difference No. 5.
Well, this is an interesting difference which a dropout of 1, 2 or 3-year student must know, and that is, a candidate can apply for JEE mains for three consecutive years but not in case of JEE Advanced, where the chance of appearing is limited to two consecutive years only.
